Present
After years of research into traditional Thai architecture and culture, these two-hundred-year-old houses have been painstakingly restored into a single structure that stands majestically amongst Bangkok’s skyscrapers. This structure, the Private Living Museum, is the talk of the town. Through it, the vanishing heritage of traditional Thai architecture has been brought back to life. |
Khun Preeda Phongpitakvises regularly opens his Private Living Museum not only to local Thais but also to foreign dignitaries, diplomats, scholars, art collectors, archaeologists, international women’s groups, and students who wish to witness and/or research the resurrection of Thai culture. Distinguished visitors have included U.S. Ambassador Richard E. Hecklinger and U.S. Ambassador Ralph L. Boyce, both of whom have graciously borne witness to this masterpiece of historic preservation. |
A varied collection of artifacts, ranging from a Stone Age Axe, to brilliant polychrome and monochrome porcelain, to 19th century silver and brass wares are displayed in finely carved antique rosewood show cases. A visit to Khun Preeda Phogpitakvises’ Private Living Museum is a trip back in time, both pleasant and educational. It gives visitors an experience of great beauty as well as insight into Thai culture.
The furniture carefully curated for the museum makes a significant contribution to the traditional appearance and atmosphere. The upper floor houses antique rosewood furniture accented with monochrome and polychrome porcelain reminiscent of the way Thais decorated homes centuries ago. The lower floor is a showroom of blue and white porcelain and various designs of intricately carved rosewood furniture pieces. The living room where the owner welcomes guests exhibits a newly-acquired porcelain coffee table. Finally, to enriching understanding of Thai culture, history, and architecture, the Private Living Museum also offers for sale a variety of polychrome and monochrome porcelain items made in Khun Preeda Phogpitakvises’ factory. |
