Khun Preeda Traditional Thai House
The Private Living Museum is the result of the lifelong dream of its owner, Khun Preeda Phongpitakvises, to bring the traditional Thai way of living back for the next generation. The museum is composed of four two centuries-old traditional Thai houses from Suphandburi Province that have been reassembled to form a single residence on Rachadapisek Road, Bangkok, Thailand as a functional home for the Phongpitakvises' family. The owner/construction manager is an educator on Thai culture and architecture, a meditation instructor, a recognized authority on monochrome and polychrome porcelain, an avid antique collector and restorer, and an interior decorator. The museum displays many artifacts from over 40 years of antique collecting.
The museum serves as a snapshot of a moment in time in the 18th century to preserve a vanishing heritage and to bring it to life for the present and future generations. Esteemed visitors have included H.E. U.S. Ambassadors Richard E. Hecklinger, Madame Hecklinger and H.E. U.S. Ambassador Ralph L. Boyce.
While some museums remain stagnant, repeat visitors to The Private Living Museum come away with a feeling that the collection and exhibition of oriental artifacts are always changing and improving. This museum is alive!
